Minute By Minute

7. NP – GOAL 1-0. A wonderful pass from Josh Crawley beats the Kempston high defensive line to allow Dom Lawless a one on one chance against Martin Conway. Lawless makes no mistake, coolly slotting the ball past the keeper.

8. KR – Ash Fuller tries to give an immediate response but only manages to find the side netting.

25. KR – Dom Marsala rises high to powerfully head Ash Fuller’s perfect pass down towards goal. Mark Osborn does unbelievably well to pull off a spectacular save to deny Kempston an equaliser.

45+1. KR – GOAL 1-1. Sam Macrae and Josh Winters work the ball well down the right before Winters flashes the ball across the face of the goal for Shane Bush to head the Walnut Boys level.

90+0.5 Full Time 1-1

Before the match a minute’s silence was immaculately observed. All at Newport Pagnell Town would like to pass on our sincerest condolences to Kempston player and former Swan Michael Lyon, whose mother Christine passed away recently.

Billed as more than just another local derby, this was second versus fourth, two good sides locking horns and the match did not disappoint. This was a keenly contested game and far more entertaining than the lack of goal mouth action suggests. Neither side were allowed much time on the ball with every inch of territory jealously guarded. However, the game was littered with good performances from players on both sides. Michael Lyon was superb, instrumental in everything Kempston did, with an assured performance and cool head. While at the other end John Thorpe immaculately marshalled his troops with Liam Smyth pulling the strings in midfield. Both sides showed their class with well worked goals and in the end a point apiece was probably the fairest result.

Although Kempston maintain their proud unbeaten league record, this was their seventh draw out of thirteen away games and failure to convert these draws into wins could scupper their chances of overhauling Nirvana to claim promotion.
