Summary

This was always going to be a difficult task for the Poacher’s against a Newport Pagnell side that was unbeaten in their previous seven matches in all competitions, having won all five League games during that run. In contrast, Boston were without a win and had only managed to secure one point from their previous six League matches. However, a dramatic late winner saw Boston Town earn a first vital victory under Jason Callaby to end their poor run of form. Boston were full of energy, closing Newport down quickly and denying them time on the ball. The first half was fairly even and keenly contested but it was the Poacher’s who managed to take a slender lead into the break.

It looked like Boston’s hard work in the first period would come to nothing when two goals midway through the second half gave the Swan’s the lead and the visitors looked set for their first win in this corner of Lincolnshire in 19 attempts. The Poacher’s refused to lie down and a spirited display saw them quickly draw level before taking all three points at the death. Boston’s management team will have been delighted with their player’s work rate and attitude.
