Summary

After Sleaford’s midweek success away at Leicester Nirvana, the Swan’s expected a tough battle against a strong side, however, in reality they had a relatively easy afternoon. The first half saw Sleaford in a determined mood, they were well disciplined and retained good shape making them difficult to break down. In attack the Lewis Millington had a good afternoon as he was allowed too much space on the right flank, aside from this they failed to mount any serious threat on the Newport goal. The Swan’s pressed well, failing to capitalise on a couple of good chances before being gifted a goal at the death of the half.

The second period was a different affair as Newport continued to do the basic things well and in the process created chances against a tiring Sleaford defensive line. In form striker Dom Lawless scored a brace to give Newport a comfortable win and although this was a good all round team performance the Swan’s rarely needed to get out of second gear.

With all joking aside, manager Darren Lynch would have been delighted with the attitude and team spirit shown by goal keeper Joe Pursell who, due to squad limitations, was called into action in an outfield role.
