Summary

Newport Pagnell missed the chance to return to the Premier Division summit as they were held by long distance visitors Boston Town who moved out of the bottom three as a result of this stalemate.

Boston’s goal was poor from the Swan’s point of view. It came following a Greg Ling free kick that was headed goal bound by Stuart Smeathers, James Lambley pulled off a fine save before setting up a quick counter attack. Newport were easily exposed by Jordan Smith’s accurate through ball that sent Jack Wightwick clear to score.

Newport appeared to exert some control over the proceedings but found it difficult break down Boston’s two organised banks of four. Time and time again Boston players threw their bodies on the line to deny the Swan’s forward momentum. However it was an unnecessary push in the penalty area that gave the hosts a way back into the game with Fazel Koriya scoring from the spot. Minutes later the Swan’s thought they had taken the lead after a sublime one two between Darryl Smith and Dom Lawless. James Lambley was equal to the build up play and Smith’s shot as the keeper pulled off a wonderful flying save.

Jack Wightwick was the focal point of Boston’s game. His work rate was second to none, covering every inch of the pitch, he consistently showed for the ball and held it up really well to buy time for his team to advance up the pitch in what was an impressive performance.
