High Five for The Swans

Newport Pagnell swept Huntingdon Town aside to make it seven games unbeaten in October with four wins and three draws, a remarkable achievement considering that five of the games were away from Willen Road. The Swan’s dominated the first half proceedings and it only took thirteen minutes before Sam O’Neill met Darryl Smith’s free kick to smash the ball into the back of the net to open the scoring. Newport’s movement was smooth and their passing incisive as they pressed the Huntingdon’s high defensive line for large periods of play. By the half hour mark they had doubled their lead as Richard Roberts couldn’t hold Smith’s fierce shot. However, the hosts didn’t have things all their own way as the Cromwellian’s defence held firm for the remainder of the half and the Swan’s defenders also had to remain alert to the potent threat that Adriano Staffieri’s pace and movement demanded.

Two quick second half goals settled the honours as first Luke Emery robbed the ball from his marker before providing the perfect pass for Dom Lawless to slide in the third goal. Then, within a minute, O’Neill provided the pass for Emery to make it four with a thumping left footed shot. With just over twenty-five minutes left Emery flicked who flicked a pass to Lawless who chipped the ball over the advancing Roberts to complete the scoring. Although five nil may seem like a thrashing on paper it must be said that the Huntingdon players’ heads didn’t drop, they never stopped running and their positive play was to be commended. Three good wins in a row, scoring twelve goals in the process, is just the build-up that manager Darren Lynch would have wanted as the Swan’s head into their Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy Quarter Final against Burnham
