The Swans propelled themselves into the last 32 of the FA Vase with victory over a very good London Colney side. The hosts took the lead after nine minutes when Dom Lawless collected a magnificent Darryl Smith through ball, without breaking his stride he rounded keeper Sean Fryer before assuredly slotting into an open net. The play was fairly even as both sides probed forward, London Colney came closest to a goal as Archie McClelland flicked the ball narrowly wide of the post. Nevertheless, it was not until twenty-seven minutes had elapsed that the visitors found themselves level with a somewhat fortuitous goal, Jack Woods took a free kick on the left-hand touchline that eluded everyone and crashed against the post and into the net. As the break approached the Swans almost scored again as Lawless touched Sam O’Neill’s cross onto the base of the post.

Newport started the second half with purpose, virtually hemming London Colney back into their final third for the first ten minutes with Lawless firing off three shots that were all superbly blocked by Shaun Murphy, Ricky Brennan and Callum Dudrenec respectively. Newport took control of the game, dominating possession and dictating play, however, London Colney still managed to create chances but nothing clear cut enough to trouble a superb display by the Newport defence. The Swans also carved out chances and with seventeen minutes remaining Kelvin Osei-Addo, having come off the bench to make his Swans debut, showed great awareness to pounce on a loose ball, outpacing a hesitant defence before smashing a thunderous shot into the back of the net to restore the host’s lead. Three minutes later Darryl Smith shot across goal beating the keeper and the post by a matter of inches. Newport had one more goal in them; great play from Lawless on the by-line, beating two players and squaring the ball for Smith who killed the opposition off with a clinical strike. Make no mistake, this was an excellent result against the leaders of the SSML Premier Division, after the match, Manager Darren Lynch said; “What a result, the lads did themselves and the club proud today. What a bunch of top boys I have at the club! Last 32 of the Vase!”
