Sleaford avenged defeat at Willen Road earlier in the season by recording a victory over the Swans by the same score line of 2-1 to the hosts. The home side made a bright start on an extremely heavy pitch, dictating the pace of play and creating three early half chances. However, they found themselves behind after half an hour when Newport scored with a route one goal created by a clever knock on by Remy Forrester that Kelvin Osei-Addo confidently finished with a powerful shot that beat Carl Stubbs at the near post.

Sleaford came out after the break with even more purpose and quickly got back on level terms after a well worked goal, created by the influential Harry Millard and calmly finished by Ryan Rushen. Within ten minutes Millard put them ahead with a goal that Sleaford’s and Millard’s play deserved. Just after the hour mark Brad Hockin was fouled on the edge of the area, Sleaford’s appeal for a penalty was turned down as the referee waved play on. Newport pushed hard to salvage a draw and had two golden opportunities late in the game; Stubbs was on hand to save Adam Pryke’s shot and then deep into added on time the keeper held Darryl Smith’s twenty-five-yard free kick to make the points safe. An excellent win and a great start to the festive period for Sleaford.
