Summary

Milton Keynes moved a step closer to claiming second place in the league with a comfortable win over Old Actonians. The first half saw them control the match with good movement and ball retention. They had to work hard to combat their opponent’s well organised midfield and had to wait half an hour for a breakthrough but their patience paid off as they took a commanding lead into the break.

Old Actonians played a higher midfield line in the second period pressurising MK into rushing their passes, however, they soon adjusted and went on to play some good, controlled football. Heather McDonnell and Leanna Doyle were exceptional as they guided MK to an emphatic win.

Summary

Milton Keynes were always going to be up against it in this top of the table clash against an excellent Palace side. They spent most of the first half on the back foot in a rearguard action in an attempt to tame the well organised Eagles. However, despite their early dominance the opening goal had more than a hint of good fortune about it. By half time Palace had a commanding lead through two further well worked goals.

The second half was a different affair as the Dons came out fighting and quickly grabbed a goal back. They continued to press well and Palace were forced to sit too deep allowing MK to push on. Clear cut chances were few and far between as both sides competed well. The Eagles sealed their win with a stoppage time goal.

Congratulations to Crystal Palace Ladies who were crowned 2015/16 FA Women’s Premier League South East Division 1 Champions following this victory.

Summary

What promised to be a good game of football was almost turned on it’s head after half an hour when the heavens opened. The deluge continued as the players battled to keep their footing and it is credit to both sides that they managed to put on a good match in such atrocious conditions.

While many around her struggled on the near waterlogged pitch one player stood out as Charley Clarke put on a masterclass, controlling proceedings with a classy display. The match looked as if it was heading for a stalemate until the eightieth minute when the stand out quality moment of the game produced the only goal. Leanna Doyle refused to give up the chase, battled past her marker before providing the perfect cross for Andie Dickens to rise majestically at the far post to power her header home. It was a goal fitting of the occasion and it will be a small consolation to Maidenhead to lose to a goal of such quality on a night where the contest could easily have been settled by a slip or farcical goal.

Having retained the Cup the Dons players took full advantage of the wet, slippery conditions to perform a collective celebratory mud slide of epic proportions.

Summary

There are some games that defy logic and have unexpected twists and turns, this was such a match. For most of the game the Dons were the dominant force, their slick interchange of passing and sweeping attacks were to be admired. They quickly gained a seemingly unassailable lead through two well worked set pieces but frustratingly failed to capitalise further on their dominance. Leanna Doyle’s composure in defence was impressive and the skill and class of Charley Clarke shone through as she controlled the game from the centre of the park. Leah Cudone and Hannah Barrett demonstrated great application as they worked tirelessly all afternoon.

The second half saw Enfield throw more bodies forward in an attempt to find a way back into the game. This tactic inevitably left gaps for MK to exploit and but for solid defending by Elizabeth Kent, Claire Gooch-Ford and Kerrie Marlborough the home side would have extended their lead. An Enfield comeback looked unlikely until a well taken Regan Coleman goal gave them a glimmer of hope and their salvation came courtesy of the award of a last minute penalty.

Summary

The Dons started well and dominated the early exchanges before Denham took the lead against the run of play. The visitors, buoyed by the goal, gained confidence and competed well with most of their best play coming through Alissa Down. MK continued to press well and got a deserved equaliser from the hard working Andie Dickens.

The second period was a fairly scrappy affair as both sides gave the ball away far too easily. Leanna Doyle and Sam Gillings were superb as they pushed up allowing the midfield to nullify the influence of Alissa Down. The Dons were made to work hard and they responded with a determined, gritty display. They controlled the play in the second half and got their reward as Hannah Barrett decisively headed home the winner.

Summary

This was never going to be an easy game for the Dons against an excellent Gillingham side who were playing their first league game since November. Both teams had a solid start in what would prove to be a tight match. MK were engaging quite high in the first twenty minutes in order to plug gaps behind the front players but after a slight adjustment in their play they gained foothold in the game. The Gills gave a strong performance in the first half but it was the Dons who almost struck first only to be denied by the woodwork.

Two goals either side of the break gave Gillingham a safety cushion and they sat back a little allowing MK more space and time on the ball. Despite their superior possession in the second period the Dons struggled to carve out many clear cut chances as the Gills defenders put in a sound performance. Gillingham appeared to tire towards the end and gifted a goal to their opponents but it came too late in the game for the Dons to push on for an equaliser.

This was an excellent match for the spectators to watch as two outstanding teams went toe to toe. It is in games like this that Dons manager Tony O’Neill will learn most about his players and despite the defeat he will have been happy with what he learnt.

Summary

MK Dons cruised into the final of the Berks & Bucks FA Women’s Senior Cup with a comprehensive victory over Chesham United. With an all round performance, every member of the team played their part as they efficiently went about their business.

As the season has progressed Tony O’Neill’s side has developed into a happy, cohesive, fluid unit who adapt readily to the variable weather conditions they face. On a sunny but bitterly cold afternoon the Dons refused to let Chesham get a foothold in the match. They controlled proceedings throughout and justifiably ran out comfortable winners.

Summary

Both sides played some lovely football in this cup clash but it was Palace who proved too strong for the Dons. It was Milton Keynes who started strongest, dominating the early exchanges, however, once Palace found their feet they grew in confidence and controlled the remaining seventy five minutes. Gemma Bryan and Freya Holdaway were a constant threat in attack and tormented the Dons defence who were exceptional despite the scoreline. Palace eventually ran out as deserved winners and progress into the next round.

Summary

Milton Keynes demolished Lowestoft with a complete performance, playing some ruthless, free flowing, scintillating football. Neither side had played a competitive match since mid December and any fears that the game would be slow to get going were soon diminished. The Don’s were too strong, too powerful, too clinical as they controlled the game from the back. Charley Clarke’s link up play in front of the defence was superb and the movement and quality from the forward line was relentless. However, manager Tony O’Neill refused to let the Don’s standards drop, demanding that his players continued to push themselves for the entire ninety minutes. The team responded and every single player performed at the highest level.

Even following such a convincing defeat a young Lowestoft side had some positives to take from the game. There were good individual performances from Chelsea Clarke and Millie Daviss and Amy Bell pulled off some fine saves. Their manager will be pleased that they tried to play entertaining football and their attitude was excellent, at no point did their heads drop as they contributed to a thoroughly enthralling game.
